A major fire broke out in Akhalia of Sylhet, destroying at least 10 business establishments near the main gate of the Border Guard Bangladesh Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB). The exact amount of damage has not yet been determined.
The fire reportedly started around 11:20 PM on Tuesday night (March 10). According to the media wing of the BGB Sylhet Battalion, flames suddenly appeared in the row of shops located opposite the battalion’s main gate and quickly spread across the area.
Upon noticing the incident, BGB members immediately began firefighting efforts using available equipment and with assistance from local residents. Shortly afterward, a team from the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence arrived at the scene and joined the operation.
Through combined efforts, the fire was brought under control around 12:30 AM.
Officials believe the fire may have originated from an electrical transformer. The affected shops included grocery stores, electronics outlets, furniture shops, and bicycle and motorcycle workshops.
