A United States aerial refueling aircraft used in military operations related to tensions with Iran has crashed in the airspace of Iraq. Refueling aircraft are typically used to supply fuel to fighter jets while they are in mid-air during combat operations.
According to the United States Central Command, the incident occurred around midnight Bangladesh time on Friday. Officials said that two aircraft were involved in the situation, with one crashing while the other managed to make an emergency landing.
The aircraft involved was a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker, a tanker plane commonly used by the U.S. military to refuel fighter jets during long-range missions.
Central Command stated that the crash was not caused by enemy fire or accidental missile strikes. Authorities said more information will be released as details become available, and rescue operations are currently underway.
