In the 13th parliamentary elections, there are 95 ‘at-risk‘ polling stations in six police stations of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, although these centres are ‘more important‘ in the words of the police. However, no centre has been identified as more important by the district police. There are a total of 1,016 polling stations in six constituencies in Sylhet.
Metropolitan and District Police said there are 6 constituencies in Sylhet district. Of these, Sylhet-1 constituency comprising the city corporation and Sadar upazila fell into six police stations. Of the three upazilas in Sylhet-3 constituency, various polling stations in South Surma upazila are under the purview of two police stations. Besides, the remaining polling stations, including two upazilas of Sylhet-2, 4, 5, 6 and 3 constituencies, are under the jurisdiction of the district police.
On January 7, the Home Ministry circular said that 10 police and women Ansars will be deployed in ‘more important’ centres of the metropolis with four weapons, two armed Ansars, each with sticks.
There will also be three armed police, two armed Ansars, 10 police and women Ansars with sticks at each centre.

There are a total of 294 polling stations in the city. Members of different law enforcement agencies, mobile teams and striking forces will be deployed at the polling stations. Adequate security measures have been taken.”
