Fake Doctor Fined Tk 50,000 in Habiganj

A man in Nabiganj, Habiganj, has been fined Tk 50,000 for using the title “doctor” without registration or an MBBS degree, falsely claiming additional professional qualifications, failing to properly manage medical waste and improperly storing medicines that require refrigeration.

The fine was imposed on Kazi Delwar Ahmed during a mobile court operation at Paniyumda Bazar in Nabiganj upazila on Saturday (August 15). The operation was led by Nabiganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Protyay Hashem.

According to officials, Kazi Delwar Ahmed had been providing medical services at Paniyumda Bazar while using the title “doctor” without the required registration. He was also accused of falsely adding professional qualifications to his name.

During the operation, officials found that he was providing medical services without properly managing medical waste, allegedly due to negligence and irresponsibility. Medicines requiring refrigeration were also found to have been improperly stored.

For these violations and breaches of consumer rights, he was fined Tk 50,000 under Sections 52 and 53 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.

A police team from Nabiganj Police Station and Dr Rashed, a medical officer at Nabiganj Upazila Health Complex, assisted in the mobile court operation.

Speaking about the drive, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Protyay Hashem said such operations would continue in the public interest to prevent irregularities, fraud and violations of consumer rights in healthcare services.
