The government has decided that shops, shopping malls and markets across the country, including Sylhet, must close by 8pm.
The decision, aimed at conserving electricity and improving power management, is scheduled to take effect from Wednesday (August 12).
However, restaurants and food shops, hospitals, pharmacies and establishments providing essential emergency services will remain exempt from the directive.
This means such businesses and services can continue operating according to their normal schedules.
The government has also directed that all illuminated billboards be switched off by 7pm and that decorative lighting be completely turned off.
