Police have arrested a man in connection with the hacking death of businessman Shahab Uddin, 65, in the Islamabad area under Shah Paran (Rah.) Police Station in Sylhet city.
The suspect, identified as Jalal Ahmed, 40, was arrested during a police operation on Tuesday (August 25) evening.
The arrest was confirmed by Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md Manzurul Alam.
He said, “Police arrested a person in connection with the hacking death of the businessman in the Islamabad area under Shah Paran (Rah.) Police Station at around 1am on Sunday (August 23). Legal proceedings against him are currently underway. Details will be disclosed later.”
The incident occurred at around 1am on Sunday in the Islamabad area of Sylhet city. The deceased, Shahab Uddin, 65, was a resident of Charkhai area in Beanibazar upazila. He ran a grocery business at Charkhai Bazar and lived with his family at his residence in the Islamabad area.
The latest murder has sparked renewed concern across Sylhet city, coming just days after another shocking incident. On the morning of August 12, businessman Md Abdus Sattar, 82, his wife Suraiya Begum, 76, and their domestic worker Tahmina, 25, were found murdered inside their home at Nikunja Villa, House No. 111, in the Mitali Residential Area of Raynagar.
