While out for a ride with his wife, a newlywed college teacher has died in a motorcycle accident.
His wife, a school teacher, has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition due to severe injuries.
The accident occurred on Saturday evening (December 28) in the Maheshpur Kalibari area of Jamalpur Sadar.
The deceased college teacher has been identified as Raju Ahmed, and his wife is Sadia Akhtar.
It is reported that Raju Ahmed and Sadia Akhtar, the newlyweds, set out on their motorcycle for a ride from their home in Nandina, Jamalpur Sadar, on Saturday afternoon.
They headed towards the Lahirikanda area via Nandina Bazaar on the Mymensingh road.
The couple resides in Jamalpur city due to their jobs. On their way back, as they reached Maheshpur Kalibari in the Sadar upazila, Sadia Akhtar fell off the back seat of the motorcycle.
When his wife fell off, the startled motorcycle rider, Raju Ahmed, lost control of the bike.
He collided with an electric pole on the side of the highway and sustained a head injury.
Local residents saw the incident and quickly informed the family members. Subsequently, the family members, with the help of locals, took Raju Ahmed and Sadia Akhtar to a private hospital in Jamalpur city.
At that time, the doctor declared Raju Ahmed dead. Sadia Akhtar remains hospitalized and is receiving treatment for her serious injuries.
A relative of the newlyweds, Dr. Himel, stated that Raju and Sadia got married about a year ago.
Raju Ahmed secured a position in the education cadre through the 40th BCS and has been working as a lecturer in zoology at Jamalpur Government Zaheda Sufia Women’s College.
His wife, Sadia Akhtar, works as an assistant teacher at the Beltia Government Primary School in Jamalpur municipality. Dr. Himel also mentioned that Raju Ahmed graduated from the Department of Zoology at Dhaka University, while Sadia holds a master’s degree in journalism.
Abu Faisal Md. Atik, the officer-in-charge of Jamalpur Sadar police station, stated, "I have just received news of the accident.
Police have been dispatched to the scene. More details will be provided after we gather information."
