Bangladesh received $1.92 billion in remittances during the first 11 days of March, reflecting a significant rise compared to the same period last year.
According to Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan, the country received about 192 crore US dollars between March 1 and March 11. This means an average daily inflow of approximately $174.5 million in remittances.
During the same period last year, remittance inflow stood at $1.33 billion. The latest figures show a noticeable year-on-year increase in foreign earnings sent by Bangladeshi expatriates.
From July of the current fiscal year up to March 11, total remittance inflows reached $24.37 billion. Compared with the same period of the previous fiscal year, this represents a growth of about 23.20 percent.
Banking sector officials say the increase is largely linked to the upcoming Eid festival, as expatriates are sending more money to support their families in Bangladesh. However, experts warn that ongoing conflicts in the Middle East could potentially affect remittance flows if the situation continues.
