The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-9 has arrested a suspect in the murder case of 16-year-old Jihad Islam Joy.
In a statement issued on Monday night, RAB's media wing said the suspect, Simon Mia, 20, was arrested at around 4:00 p.m. following an intelligence-led operation in the Srishtigarh Bus Stand area under Shibpur Police Station in Narsingdi district.
Simon Mia is the son of Suman Mia of Srishtigarh.
According to RAB, on July 10, Jihad Islam Joy, a resident of Kuttapara in Sarail Upazila of Brahmanbaria district, had gone fishing with his father near the Nailya Bhanga intersection in Kuttapara. After taking some of the catch home, he left again to rejoin his father. However, he remained missing until around 9:00 p.m.
During a search, family members found Joy's body lying beside bushes along the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway and identified him at the scene. His father later filed a murder case with Sarail Police Station.
RAB said it subsequently launched an investigation into the case and identified Simon Mia as a suspect. He was arrested as part of the ongoing investigation.
RAB Media Officer and Additional Superintendent of Police K.M. Shahidul Islam Sohag confirmed that the suspect has been handed over to Sarail Police Station for further legal proceedings.
