Two teenagers were killed after being electrocuted by a live electric wire connected to a utility pole in Shalla Upazila of Sunamganj.
The incident occurred between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Monday. The deceased were identified as Jillu Mia, 14, son of Sekul Mia, and Sakil Mia, 13, son of Mukhlech Mia. Both were residents of Kandigaon (Shantinagar) village under Shalla Union.
According to local sources, the two boys had gone to bathe in a waterbody near their homes when they accidentally came into contact with a live electric wire connected to a power pole and were electrocuted. When they did not return home, family members began searching for them. At around 6:00 p.m., one of the bodies was found floating in the water, while the other was discovered nearby still entangled with the electric wire. They were taken to Shalla Upazila Health Complex.
Dr. Omar Faruk, the physician on duty at the health complex, said the two victims were already dead when they were brought to the hospital.
Abdus Sattar, Chairman of Shalla Union Parishad and a resident of Kandigaon village, said the boys died after coming into contact with a live electric wire while bathing.
Shalla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Acting) Shawkat Jamil said the victims died from electrocution after coming into contact with the electric wire. As the families did not file any complaints, the bodies were handed over to their relatives for burial. Police have also registered an unnatural death case in connection with the incident.
