Four government officials have been appointed to regularly inspect and monitor government hospitals in Sylhet Division to improve healthcare quality, ensure administrative discipline and strengthen the overall standard of public services.
The Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued an office order on Sunday (August 16) through its Administration-1 branch. Under the same order, 69 officials have been appointed as inspection officers for government hospitals across different divisions, including Sylhet.
The officials assigned to oversee government hospitals in Sylhet are Joint Secretary (Purchase and Procurement Sub-division) Md Helal Uddin, who will be responsible for all hospitals across Sylhet Division; Deputy Secretary (Administration-4 Branch) Swapan Kumar Mondal, who will oversee all hospitals in Sunamganj district; Senior Assistant Secretary (Global Health-2 Branch) Md Abdul Wares Ansari, who will oversee all hospitals in Sylhet district; and Senior Assistant Secretary (Government Health Management-2 Branch) Ms Tamanna Tasnim, who will be responsible for all hospitals in Sunamganj and Moulvibazar districts.
According to the office order issued by the Administration-1 branch of the Health Services Division, the responsibilities of the appointed officials will extend beyond routine hospital inspections. They will regularly monitor staffing, cleanliness, medical equipment and machinery, infrastructure, security and overall hospital management.
They will also oversee digital attendance of doctors and healthcare workers, vaccination programmes, prevention of non-communicable diseases, public awareness activities, initiatives aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality, healthcare services for older people and nutrition programmes, while coordinating necessary measures where required.
During inspections, the officials will be required to report any irregularities, limitations, observations and recommendations to the relevant branch within the stipulated timeframe. Under the order, inspection reports must be submitted by the 7th day of the following month.
In addition, each appointed official must inspect at least one hospital every month. The initiative is aimed at strengthening regular monitoring of the quality of services, administrative activities and healthcare management at government hospitals and ensuring better and more quality healthcare for the public.
