A man named Batir Mia (45) has died following a family dispute in Dowarabazar Upazila of Sunamganj. The incident occurred around 11:00 AM on Sunday (May 3) in Mamnopur village under Surma Union.

Police have detained the victim’s wife, Rumana Akter (25), and her mother Khairun Nesa (55) for questioning. The incident has created tension and concern in the local area.

Batir Mia was the son of Furmot Ali from Guzawra village in the same union. His wife Rumana Akter is the daughter of Anfor Ali from Mamnopur village. After marriage, the couple had been living at the wife’s parental home for a long time. They have one son and one daughter.

According to local sources, the couple had been experiencing ongoing family disputes for several days. The conflict reportedly escalated over a mobile phone recharge issue, which led to further arguments on Saturday.

On Sunday morning, the dispute intensified into a physical altercation. According to the wife’s claim, Batir Mia died after wrapping a scarf around his neck, leading to suffocation.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam Talukdar of Dowarabazar Police Station said the body has been recovered and sent to the morgue of Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

He added that an investigation is underway to determine the actual cause of death.
