The government of Bangladesh has placed 17 senior officers of the Bangladesh Police, including 16 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and Additional DIGs, into compulsory retirement.
The decision was announced on Sunday (May 3) through a gazette issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to the notification, the officers have been retired in the public interest under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018. They will receive all retirement benefits as per the rules.
Earlier, on April 22, the government had also sent 11 DIGs and two Additional DIGs into compulsory retirement from various units and departments of the police.
Among those retired this time are Anti-Terrorism Unit DIG Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, Highway Police DIG Imtiaz Ahmed, CID DIG Habibur Rahman, Police Headquarters DIG (TR) Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, and National Security Intelligence (NSI) Director Harun-or-Rashid.
Also included are Dhaka Police Staff College DIG SM Aktaruzzaman, Noakhali PTC Commandant Haider Ali Khan, Khulna PTC Commandant Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan, Tourist Police DIG Ruhul Amin, Highway Police DIG Rafiqul Hasan Gani, Naval Police DIG Mizanur Rahman, and Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Majid Ali.
Police Headquarters DIG Kazi Zia Uddin, Railway Police DIG Golam Rauf Khan, Rangpur PTC Commandant Sheikh Mohammad Rezaul Haider, and Highway Police DIG Rokhfar Sultana Khanam are also on the list.
In the same order, Railway Police Superintendent (Supernumerary Additional DIG) Farhat Ahmed has also been retired.
The order, issued in the public interest, has taken immediate effect.
