Bangladesh's Minister for Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute, Khandaker Abdul Muktadir MP, has announced that the long-awaited 250-bed hospital in Sylhet will soon become fully operational. He also revealed plans to build a state-of-the-art 120-bed hospital under Sylhet Medical University.
The minister made the announcement while addressing a discussion meeting organized by the Sylhet Metropolitan BNP at the Muslim Sahitya Sangsad in Sylhet on Sunday (May 31), marking the death anniversary of former President Ziaur Rahman.
Speaking at the event as the chief guest, Abdul Muktadir said the government is committed to strengthening Sylhet's healthcare infrastructure by launching the 250-bed hospital and establishing a modern 120-bed teaching hospital under Sylhet Medical University.
He also outlined several major infrastructure projects aimed at improving transportation in Sylhet. According to the minister, the road from Osmani International Airport to Ambarkhana will be widened into a four-lane highway. In addition, a new bypass road will be constructed from Saheber Bazar to Tilagor to divert heavy cargo vehicles away from the city center.
The minister added that the relevant authorities have already been instructed to examine the feasibility of constructing link roads around Sylhet city to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity.
The discussion meeting was chaired by Rezaul Hasan Koyes Lodi, Acting President of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP, and moderated by General Secretary Md. Imdad Hossain Chowdhury.
Among those present were Bir Muktijoddha Abdur Razzaq, Assistant Secretary for Small and Micro Credit Affairs of the BNP National Executive Committee; M.A. Malik, Member of Parliament for Sylhet-3; Miftah Siddiqui, Assistant Organizing Secretary of the BNP National Executive Committee; former Sylhet Metropolitan BNP Convener Abdul Kaiyum Jalali Panki; former General Secretary Badruzzaman Selim; senior party leaders, and representatives from affiliated organizations.
