All preparations have been completed for the National Citizen Party (NCP) "July March" programme in Osmaninagar, Sylhet, as the party expects a peaceful event under the slogan "July Awakening to Build the Nation."
As part of the NCP's nationwide July March campaign, the party's central leaders are scheduled to visit Osmaninagar on Thursday (July 30). The march will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Uttar Goalabazar of Osmaninagar Upazila.
The announcement was made during a meeting held on Wednesday evening at a restaurant in Goalabazar, organized jointly by the Osmaninagar units of the NCP, Juboshokti, and Chhatra Shakti. The meeting was also arranged to protest the recent attack and vandalism targeting leaders of the 2024 mass uprising.
Speakers at the meeting called for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the success and security of the July March, adding that all necessary preparations had already been completed.
The meeting was chaired by NCP leader Haji Mohammad Mosahid Ali. Among the speakers were Ashraful Islam Abid, Joint Convener of Sylhet District Chhatra Shakti; Monirul Sakib, Member Secretary of Osmaninagar NCP; and Rakib Mia, Member Secretary of Osmaninagar Juboshokti.
Others present included Tanvir Sami, Member Secretary of the Sylhet district unit of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement; spokesperson Ibrahim Ahmed; Joint Convener Sakib Ahmed; Senior Joint Convener of Osmaninagar NCP Rubel Ahmed; Abdul Mukit; and Osmaninagar Juboshokti Convener Kamrul Hasan, among others.
According to organizers, NCP Convener Nahid Islam, Akhtar Hossain, Hasnat Abdullah, and Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwary are expected to attend the roadside rally.
Meanwhile, concerns have emerged over security following the recent clash between Chhatra Dal and NCP activists in Habiganj on July 28. The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media ahead of the Osmaninagar programme.
However, Golam Mostafa, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Osmaninagar Police Station, said that law and order in the area remains normal.
