A new management committee has been formed for Shri Shri Mahalakshmi Bhairabi Griba Peethasthan, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of Hindu tradition, located in Jainpur of Dakshin Surma, Sylhet.
The new executive committee was formed at a general meeting held on Friday after the term of the existing management committee expired.
By consensus, Shibabrata Bhowmik Chandan was elected president, Janardan Chakraborty Mintu general secretary and Shri Sanjit Kar treasurer.
Among others, former commander of the Sylhet District Unit of the Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Bir Muktijoddha Subrata Chakraborty Jewel; distinguished adviser to the Peethasthan Management Committee Ahivushan Deb; adviser and Bir Muktijoddha Panna Lal Roy; adviser Jhantu Kumar Dey; prominent lawyers Bijoy Kumar Deb Bulu and Sudip Baidya; Chandan Das, general secretary of the Metropolitan Puja Celebration Council; Puja Council leaders Shailen Kar and Nandan Pal; Dakshin Surma Puja Celebration Council President Dipankar Das and General Secretary Nikhil Malakar; Moglabazar Police Station Puja Celebration Council President Monmohan Debnath and Secretary Biswajit Das; and Janmashtami Celebration Council President Pradip Kar and General Secretary Apon Das, among others, were present and spoke at the meeting.
A large number of devotees and followers from the Sylhet City Corporation area, greater Jainpur and Gotatikar also attended the general meeting.
