Despite no new laboratory-confirmed measles cases being detected in the past 24 hours, 78 new suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals across the Sylhet division.
A total of 278 suspected measles patients are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals in the division.
The information was revealed in the latest Measles and Rubella Situation Report published on Tuesday (July 28) by the Office of the Divisional Director of Health.
According to the report, 611 laboratory-confirmed measles cases have been recorded in the Sylhet division between January 1 and July 28 this year. Of these, 201 cases were reported in Sylhet district, 61 in Habiganj (including 2 rubella cases), 27 in Moulvibazar, and 322 in Sunamganj.
Among the 78 newly admitted suspected patients over the past 24 hours, individuals were hospitalized at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital, North East Medical College Hospital, and the district hospitals in Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj.
Of the 278 patients currently under treatment, the highest numbers are at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital (84 patients) and Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (83 patients). Other suspected patients are also being treated at Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital, Mount Adora Hospital, North East Medical College Hospital, several upazila health complexes, and the district hospitals in Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj.
According to the Health Department, no measles-related deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. However, since the beginning of the year, 105 people have died from suspected measles, while 4 deaths have been confirmed through laboratory testing, bringing the total measles-related death toll to 109.
Among the fatalities, Sunamganj recorded the highest number with 48 deaths, followed by Sylhet with 37, Moulvibazar with 13, and Habiganj with 11.
The Health Department has urged the public to seek immediate medical attention if measles symptoms appear and has called on parents to ensure their children receive routine vaccinations under the national immunization program.
