Sylhet, Bangladesh: A teenage student was fatally stabbed following a dispute over a football game on Kazir Bazar Bridge in Sylhet city on Monday (July 27) at around 7:00 pm, police said.
The victim was identified as Rifat Ahmed, son of Misbah Uddin from the Bondhon Residential Area in the Khasdobir area under Airport Police Station. He was reportedly a ninth-grade student at Dipshikha School.
According to police, the incident stemmed from an earlier dispute involving Rifat and several others over a football match at an indoor sports venue in Sylhet. The disagreement later escalated, leading to the fatal stabbing.
Locals rushed the injured Rifat to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body was later sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy by the police outpost at the medical college.
Confirming the incident, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, Md. Manjurul Alam, said the murder was linked to the earlier conflict over the football game.
He added that the body has been kept at the morgue for post-mortem examination.
Police also said that no formal complaint had been filed as of the latest update. Legal action will be taken once a complaint is received, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
