Sylhet, Bangladesh: Police have identified the suspects involved in two separate murder incidents that occurred on the same day in Sylhet. The bodies of both victims were handed over to their families after post-mortem examinations.
According to police, several suspects who were receiving treatment at hospital fled and went into hiding after learning about ongoing police operations. Authorities said no one involved in the killings would escape justice.
Police and local sources said that on Monday evening, Rifat Ahmed (15), a ninth-grade student of Dip Shikha High School and the only son of Mishbah Uddin of Khasdobir area, was fatally stabbed while returning home with classmates after playing football at the South Surma Indoor Stadium near the southern end of Kazir Bazar Bridge.
Three of his classmates—Rabiul Hasan (16), Sabbir (16), and Samiul (16)—were seriously injured in the attack and are currently undergoing treatment at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
In a separate incident later the same evening, Md. Abdullah (25), son of Faruk Ahmed Badul of Dighirpar village under Hatkhola Union in Sylhet Sadar Upazila, died at around 8:00 p.m. at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital after sustaining injuries in an attack linked to a long-running land dispute.
Officer-in-Charge of Jalalabad Police Station, Md. Shamsul Habib, said several accused had been admitted to hospital with injuries but fled after learning of police efforts to arrest them. He added that all suspects have been identified and police surveillance is continuing to ensure their arrest.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khan Mohammad Mainul Zakir said the victims' bodies were handed over to their families following the completion of legal formalities and post-mortem examinations.
He emphasized that all those involved in the two murders would be brought to justice.
