Sylhet, Bangladesh: The Kulaura Municipality unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Moulvibazar has been suspended over allegations of creating organizational disorder and engaging in activities contrary to party discipline.
The decision was confirmed in an official letter signed by Moulvibazar District BNP Convener Md. Faizul Karim Mayun and Member Secretary Abdur Rahim Ripon on Monday (July 27).
Copies of the letter were also sent to BNP Standing Committee Member Professor Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Sylhet Divisional Organizing Secretary Alhaj G.K. Gaus, Assistant Organizing Secretary Kalim Uddin Milon, and Miftah Siddiqui.
According to the letter, the current committee of Kulaura Municipality BNP had created organizational disorder and was accused of activities that violated party discipline. Considering the party's unity, discipline, and overall interests, the Moulvibazar District BNP decided to suspend the committee until further notice.
During the suspension period, all organizational activities of the municipality unit will be conducted under the guidance and directives of the district BNP leadership.
Party leaders and activists have been instructed to uphold party discipline, principles, and ideology while carrying out their responsibilities. The district BNP said further decisions regarding the municipality committee's leadership and future organizational structure would be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, the Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, the BNP's youth wing, dissolved the newly formed committee of Kushakhali Union in Chandraganj, Lakshmipur, after 16 of its 31 committee members resigned.
The move came after widespread criticism following media reports highlighting the mass resignation. The dissolution was confirmed on Tuesday (July 28) through a press release signed by Minhazul Bhuiyan, Joint General Secretary (Office) of the Jubo Dal Central Committee.
However, the official statement did not specify the reason behind dissolving the committee.
