The measles outbreak continues to spread across the Sylhet division, with 18 new cases confirmed over the past 24 hours. During the same period, one child died after contracting the disease.

The information was revealed in the "Measles and Rubella Report-2026" published by the Divisional Director of Health's Office on Thursday (July 30).

According to the report, the total number of laboratory-confirmed measles cases in Sylhet Division has risen to 634 between January 1 and July 30 this year. Of these, 213 cases were reported in Sylhet district, 61 in Habiganj (including two rubella cases), 33 in Moulvibazar, and 327 in Sunamganj.

Over the last 24 hours, 83 new suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals across the division. At present, 286 suspected patients are receiving treatment at various hospitals and উপজেলা Health Complexes.

The child who died during the past 24 hours was from Shahapur area of Gowainghat Upazila in Sylhet. The victim, aged 1 year and 11 months, had been undergoing treatment at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

According to the Health Department, the total number of deaths linked to suspected and confirmed measles in Sylhet Division has now reached 110. Among them, 104 were suspected measles deaths, while six deaths were laboratory-confirmed measles cases.

The Health Department has urged parents to ensure that children receive their measles vaccinations on time. It also advised the public to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest healthcare facility if a child develops a fever accompanied by a skin rash.
