The Sylhet district administration has requested the deployment of members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in five upazilas to help maintain law and order and address potential security concerns.
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun has sent a formal request to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the BGB Headquarters seeking the deployment.
Confirming the matter, Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun said the request was made following a recommendation from Sylhet Superintendent of Police Chowdhury Md. Jaber Sadeq. The proposed deployment is intended for Thursday and Friday to strengthen security in the designated areas.
According to administrative sources, the National Citizen Party (NCP) is scheduled to hold its "July March" programmes in several upazilas of Sylhet on Thursday and Friday. Authorities have sought BGB deployment to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure public safety during the political events.
The five upazilas where BGB personnel have been proposed for deployment are Jaintiapur, Golapganj, Gowainghat, Kanaighat, and Companiganj. BGB members are expected to work in coordination with the district administration and other law enforcement agencies.
Meanwhile, Kamrul Arif, Member Secretary of the NCP's Sylhet district unit, said that according to the party's previously announced schedule, "July March" programmes will be held in six upazilas over two days. He added that all preparations for the events, which will be attended by central party leaders, have already been completed.
Under the party's schedule, members will visit the families of martyrs in Golapganj at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, followed by the July March in Kanaighat at 3:00 p.m. and Osmaninagar at 7:00 p.m. On Friday, the programmes are scheduled for Companiganj at 3:00 p.m., Gowainghat at 5:00 p.m., and Jaintiapur at 7:00 p.m.
