Sylhet, Aug. 2: Detectives from the Sylhet District Police have arrested two alleged drug traffickers along with 500 Yaba tablets during a special anti-narcotics operation in Goainghat Upazila.
The operation was carried out at around 5:00 pm on Friday (August 1) in the Hadarpar area of Rustampur Union under Goainghat Police Station.
The arrested individuals were identified as Shahabur Rahman (35) and Russel Ahmed (20), both residents of Hadarpar village in Goainghat Upazila.
According to police, the District Detective Branch (DB) conducted the raid based on intelligence and recovered 500 Yaba tablets from the suspects. The seized narcotics have an estimated market value of Tk 150,000.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Goainghat Police Station, Md. Omar Faruk, said that a regular case has been filed against the two suspects under the Narcotics Control Act.
He added that the Sylhet Range Police remain committed to building a drug-free society and that similar operations against narcotics, terrorism, and all forms of crime will continue in the future.
