Habiganj, Bangladesh, Aug. 3: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a man in connection with a double murder case in Habiganj.
In a statement issued on Sunday (August 2) night, RAB's media wing said that Ziaul Haque, 42, was arrested at around 4:15 p.m. during a raid conducted on the basis of intelligence information in the Pachdona area under Narsingdi Sadar Model Police Station.
The arrested suspect is the son of the late Nurul Haque of Hilalpur village under Bahubal upazila in Habiganj.
According to RAB, a long-standing dispute over the use of a road existed between Ziaul Haque and his associates and two local residents, Selu Mia and Helal Uddin, of Adityapur village in Bahubal.
Investigators said that on June 15, at around noon, Selu Mia was allegedly attacked with locally made weapons near Dubai Bazar after being found alone. Hearing his cries for help, Helal Uddin rushed to rescue him but was also attacked. Both men sustained critical injuries.
Local residents later rescued the victims and took them to Bahubal Upazila Health Complex. They were subsequently referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Selu Mia dead upon arrival. Helal Uddin later died while undergoing treatment at around 10:30 p.m. the same night.
Following the incident, Selu Mia's wife filed a murder case with Bahubal Police Station. RAB launched a parallel investigation and later arrested Ziaul Haque in connection with the case.
RAB-9 had earlier arrested the second accused in the case on July 13.
RAB Media Officer and Additional Superintendent of Police K.M. Shahidul Islam Sohag confirmed that the arrested suspect has been handed over to Bahubal Police Station for further legal proceedings.
