The National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate has fined two business establishments a total of Tk 40,000 during a market monitoring drive in Dirai municipality of Sunamganj district for preparing food in unhygienic conditions and selling counterfeit chips. Three dental clinics were also temporarily shut down for operating without the required licences and documentation.
The operation was carried out on Tuesday (August 4) by Amirul Islam Masud, Assistant Director of the Sunamganj District Office of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, as part of the agency's routine market monitoring activities.
During the drive, officials found that Food Gallery Restaurant was preparing and serving food in an unhygienic and unsanitary environment. The restaurant was fined Tk 30,000 for the violations.
Meanwhile, Habib Enterprise, a wholesale shop on College Road, was fined Tk 10,000 after officials confirmed allegations that it was selling counterfeit potato chips.
The team also inspected three dental clinics located in Sen Market and found that they were operating without the necessary licences and legal documents. The clinics were temporarily closed and instructed to appear before the Sunamganj District Office of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate within seven days with the required documentation.
Speaking after the operation, Assistant Director Amirul Islam Masud said the department would continue its regular market monitoring and enforcement drives to ensure food safety and maintain discipline in the marketplace in the interest of consumers.
