Sylhet Metropolitan Chhatra Shibir Holds Protest Rally

Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Sylhet Metropolitan unit held a protest procession and rally on Tuesday night, protesting what it described as “terror attacks” by the Bangladesh Chhatra Dal (JCD) at Jagannath University (JnU), Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), Dhaka College, and Dhaka Alia Madrasa, as well as alleged attempts to create instability on campuses across the country.

The protest procession began from Court Point in Bandar Bazar area of Sylhet city and ended at Chouhatta Point with a brief rally.

The event was presided over by Shahidul Islam Saju, a member of the central executive council of Chhatra Shibir and president of its Sylhet Metropolitan unit. The programme was conducted by Sylhet Metropolitan Secretary Abu Taher Mohammad Fahim.

Addressing the rally after the procession, Shahidul Islam Saju alleged that “Chhatra Dal wants to create instability on campuses across the country.” He claimed that several Chhatra Shibir activists were injured in attacks at Jagannath University, Begum Rokeya University, and Dhaka Alia Madrasa.

He further alleged that such activities were being carried out by Chhatra Dal to divert attention from the government’s failures. “If Chhatra Shibir begins building resistance, they will not be able to control the situation,” he said.

Among those present at the protest was Masud Rana Tuhin, president of the Chhatra Shibir unit at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).

Leaders and activists from different levels of the Sylhet Metropolitan Chhatra Shibir unit also attended the procession and rally in large numbers.
