The pass rate in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination has declined in Sylhet this year, although the number of students achieving GPA-5 has increased. Nearly half of the examinees failed the examination, with the Sylhet Education Board recording a pass rate of 58.33 percent. This means 41.67 percent of the students failed.
A total of 3,836 students under the Sylhet Education Board achieved GPA-5 this year. Compared with last year, the pass rate has dropped by 10.24 percentage points.
In 2025, the pass rate in Sylhet was 68.57 percent, while 3,614 students achieved GPA-5. In 2024, the pass rate was 73.35 percent, with 5,471 students securing GPA-5.
According to the education board, a total of 89,079 students from 973 educational institutions under the Sylhet Education Board took part in this year's SSC examination. Of them, 51,957 students passed.
Among the four districts under the board, Sylhet district recorded the highest pass rate, while Sunamganj had the lowest.
The number of examinees has decreased by 12,798 compared with last year. Of the students who appeared for the examination this year, 53,891 were female and 35,530 were male.
