The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 48 Battalion seized smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 2.4 million during separate operations along various border areas of Sylhet on Sunday (August 9).
Acting on confidential information, BGB personnel conducted raids in Banglabazar, Bichnakandi, Sangram, Tamabil, Panthumai, Sonarhat, Pratappur and Utma areas.
During the operations, the border force seized illegally imported Indian liquor, cattle, chocolates, fruits, vegetables, betel nuts, sugar and blankets. Bangladeshi garlic and snakehead fish were also seized while they were allegedly being smuggled from Bangladesh into India.
According to BGB, the estimated seizure value of the confiscated goods is around Tk 2.4 million.
Mohammad Nazmul Haque, commander of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB), said, “BGB operations and intelligence activities are continuing to ensure border security and prevent smuggling and drug trafficking. Necessary legal action will be taken regarding the seized goods in accordance with the rules.”
