Two motorcycle showrooms in Sylhet city’s Shibganj area were fined during a mobile court operation on Sunday (August 9) for allegedly selling motorcycles without registration.
The operation was conducted at around 3:30pm under the leadership of Labannya Islam Ritu, assistant commissioner and executive magistrate of the Sylhet district administration. Motor Vehicle Inspector Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain of the Sylhet office of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), along with members of the Sylhet Metropolitan Police, assisted in the operation.
According to the district administration, the mobile court conducted raids at several motorcycle showrooms in the Shibganj area after receiving information that unregistered motorcycles were being sold.
During the operation, Niloy Motors and Premium Motors were fined a total of Tk 16,000 under the Road Transport Act, 2018. Two separate cases were also filed against the two businesses.
Labannya Islam Ritu said, “Such operations will continue to ensure safe movement on public roads and lawful buying and selling of motor vehicles.”
She added that the BRTA had previously conducted similar drives at motorcycle showrooms in the Naiorpul area of the city, where several showrooms were also fined.
