Police recovered the hanging body of Abul Hasnat Sulaiman, 42, a travel business owner, from a rented house in the Shologhar residential area of Sunamganj municipal town on Sunday night.
Police recovered the body at around 9pm and sent it to the morgue of Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Sulaiman was the son of Abdur Rouf of Pratappur village in Dowarabazar upazila. He had been living in a rented house in the Shologhar area for a long time and ran a travel business in Sunamganj town.
According to his family, Sulaiman had been under mental distress for a prolonged period over financial disputes and outstanding payments related to his business. At some point on Sunday evening, he was found hanging in a room of the house.
Before his death, Sulaiman reportedly made a post from his personal Facebook account. In the post, he shared photographs of two individuals and accused them of fraud and misappropriating a large amount of money in connection with his travel business.
He claimed in the post that he had fallen into severe financial and mental distress after allegedly being deceived by several people during his years in business. He also claimed that Tk 533,000 was owed to him by a person named Siddiq Ahmed and Tk 1.4 million by another person, Kawsaruzzaman Talukdar.
Arif Ullah, inspector (investigation) at Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed that the body had been recovered and sent to the hospital morgue.
“Police are working to determine the exact cause of death,” he said.
