A housewife allegedly died after being physically assaulted in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet. Police have arrested her husband and his other wife in connection with the incident.
The deceased was identified as Jiasmin Akter, 32, wife of Md Rafiqu Ahmed, also known as Rashid Ahmed, from Noyagati area under No. 1 Nijpat Union of Jaintapur.
The arrested suspects are Rafiqu Ahmed, 52, son of Bashir Ahmed, and his other wife, Mosha. Roshna Begum, 36. Roshna was Jiasmin’s senior co-wife.
According to police, Jiasmin was allegedly physically assaulted by her husband and Roshna Begum at Rafiqu’s home in Noyagati around 4pm on Friday (August 7) following a family dispute.
On Tuesday (August 11), at around 1pm, Jiasmin reportedly fell ill. Her father, Bashir Ahmed, took her to Jaintapur Upazila Health Complex, but she died on the way to the hospital.
After being informed by Bashir Ahmed, police went to the health complex and prepared an inquest report. The body was subsequently sent to the morgue of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College for autopsy.
Jaintapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Molla said police had completed the inquest and sent the body for autopsy.
He said the victim’s family was preparing to file a complaint and that necessary legal action would be taken once the complaint was lodged.
