The US Embassy in Dhaka has issued new guidance for Bangladeshi visa applicants who intend to travel to the United States for medical treatment.
Under the new guidance, applicants for medical treatment visas (B-2) must provide proof of their financial ability to cover all expenses related to treatment, travel and their stay in the United States.
The information was shared in a message published on the embassy’s verified Facebook page on Saturday (July 25).
The US Embassy said each application for a B-2 visa for medical treatment would be evaluated individually by consular officers. The process is intended to ensure that the applicant’s treatment or stay does not create any financial burden on US taxpayers.
Under the new guidance, visa applicants must submit a prescription from a registered physician in their home country. They must also provide a reasonable explanation of why medical treatment is needed in the United States.
In addition, applicants must submit a letter of acceptance from a US doctor or hospital. The document must include details about the expected duration of treatment, the medical services required and the estimated cost.
The embassy also said applicants must provide proof of sufficient financial capacity to cover medical expenses, airfare, accommodation and other costs during their stay in the United States.
According to the US Embassy, providing the required documents and proper proof of financial capability will make the evaluation process for medical visa applications easier and more transparent.
