Expatriates; Welfare and Overseas Employment and Labour Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, MP, has reaffirmed his commitment to Sylhet’s development, stating that all elected Members of Parliament from the region will work together in a coordinated manner to address long-standing challenges.

“We, as elected representatives, will work collectively for the development of Sylhet,” the minister said.

He emphasized that resolving infrastructure-related issues — including problems in aviation, railway, and road connectivity — will be treated as a priority.

“We will make swift efforts to address the existing challenges related to Sylhet’s infrastructure, including air, rail, and road transport. If Sylhet faces any form of discrimination, we will not accept it,” he added.

The minister also underlined that the elected representatives remain accountable to fulfill the hopes and expectations of the people of Sylhet.

Shrine Visits and Public Interaction

Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury made these remarks on Friday (February 20) while speaking to journalists after visiting the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA), Hazrat Shah Paran (RA), and the grave of Hazrat Maulana Nur Uddin Gohorpuri (RA) in Sylhet.

The visits were part of his official engagements in the region following his assumption of ministerial responsibilities.

Shah Eidgah Ground Inspection Ahead of Eid

Earlier in the day, the minister visited the historic Shahi Eidgah Ground in Sylhet.

With Eid-ul-Fitr approaching, he directed the concerned authorities to ensure that the ground is renovated and made fully suitable for Eid prayers within the shortest possible time.

He specifically instructed officials to:

  • Repair damaged and broken areas of the field

  • Improve preservation measures

  • Complete beautification work

  • Ensure overall readiness before Eid

The minister stressed the importance of maintaining the historic Eidgah ground as both a religious and cultural landmark for the people of Sylhet.

During the inspection, Rajiu Uddin Khan, Executive Engineer of Sylhet City Corporation, along with members of the Shahi Eidgah Management Committee, were present.

Broader Development Agenda

The minister’s remarks indicate a broader development focus aimed at strengthening Sylhet’s infrastructure, improving connectivity, and ensuring equitable treatment in national planning.

Observers believe coordinated efforts among Sylhet’s MPs could play a significant role in accelerating regional growth, especially in sectors such as expatriate services, labour markets, transport, and urban development.
