Police have detained eight activists of the banned Awami League affiliate organization Bangladesh Awami Jubo League from the Kotwali police station area in Chattogram city.
The arrests were made on Friday (February 20) morning from the Rifle Club area near Riazuddin Bazar.
Sudden Procession Prompts Police Action
According to police sources, a sudden procession was brought out in the area under the banner of the Chattogram Metropolitan Awami Jubo League earlier that morning.
Upon receiving information, Kotwali Police Station officials swiftly responded and launched an operation at the scene.
During the drive, eight members affiliated with the banned organizations — Bangladesh Chhatra League and Bangladesh Awami Jubo League — were detained.
Affiliations Confirmed
Police confirmed that the detained individuals are leaders and activists associated with Awami League’s affiliated and associate bodies.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the detainees. Legal procedures are reportedly underway.
Ongoing Monitoring
Law enforcement agencies stated that they remain alert to any attempts to organize activities under the banner of banned political organizations. Officials indicated that further actions would be taken in accordance with the law if similar incidents occur.
